Climbing onto its perch in the morning sky, the African sun crosses a mountain range to caress a broad, flat rock, baking it to a gentle warmth. From the shadow of a narrow crevice, a family of hyraxes emerges, a warm dust dulling the sheen of their golden fur. They settle on the rock's warmed expanse to take their ritual sunbath, but remain ever vigilant. The shadow of a hovering eagle sweeps toward the ground. With an urgent cry the alarm sounds — the colony rushes to safety. As the heat of the blazing sun intensifies, ancient aromas are drawn from the scorched rocks, the sparse vegetation and the petrified hyraceum. Strangely, they intertwine to form a fragrance at once primal and exotic, its animalic tendencies tamed by an underlying current of soft florals.
