It was one of my grandmother's favorite desserts,
the Neapolitan pastiera, one of the most traditional symbols of the beautiful city of Naples.
Tasty and full of love and perseverance, she made it every Easter, when the sun promised to break through the beautiful days ahead.
She promised herself every year to improve her recipe, even if she did not always admit that she succeeded perfectly.
The scent of flour, sugar mixed with candied lemon and orange peels, freshly opened durum wheat jar… warmed the atmosphere of the house, our house.
It reminds me of Phraenesia’s pastiera, as if these thoughts had soaked into its scent, firmly convincing me that I could no longer do without it.
