ROSA FIORITA - FILIPPO SORCINELLI

Inspired by the drawers of the sacristy of the Basilica of Santa Rita da Cascia.

“Hello Rita, vase of love, sorrowful spouse of Christ, you were born from the Savior’s thorns, beautiful as a rose.” Such is the phrase engraved as a greeting on the central beam of the basilica’s façade.

The olfactory memory refers to her saint. In January 1457, while she was ill in her monastic cell in Cascia, she asked a cousin to bring her a rose from his land in Roccaporena. Tradition tells that God granted this wish and that Rita’s relative was able to pick a rose for her that bloomed in winter, under the snow.
