DANAË
Danaë is an oil painting by Gustav Klimt, created in 1907. A symbolist example, Danaë was a popular subject in the early 1900s for many artists; she was used as the ultimate symbol of divine love and transcendence.
Legend has it that, imprisoned in a bronze tower during the reign of Acrisios, her father, king of Argos, Danaë was visited by Zeus (Jupiter for the Romans), symbolized here by the rain of gold flowing between her legs. The expression on the woman's face clearly conveys her excitement at this golden flow.
In this work, she is draped in a royal purple veil, symbol of her imperial lineage. Some time after her heavenly appearance, she gave birth to a son, Perseus, who is later mentioned in Greek mythology for having defeated the Gorgon Medusa and saved Andromeda.
Here is a sensual, divine fragrance. Argos DANAË awakens the senses from the very first notes of bright bergamot and Sicilian lemon. Its alluring heart, made up of spicy pink pepper, deep guaiac wood, cedar and cashmere wood, unfolds slowly. Finally, its heady, lingering base of sweet, intoxicating cistus, spicy patchouli, Mysore sandalwood and heady musk casts its spell over you.
